“Flaming enthusiasm, backed by horse sense and persistence, is the quality that most frequently makes for success.” ~Dale Carnegie

What is enthusiasm? Great or intense feeling for a subject or cause. Ardent eagerness. Zeal.

Did you know that the word enthusiasm comes from another word meaning “full of Spirit” or “full of God?” Chew on that thought for awhile.

There are moments when I’m on fire. Energy and excitement burst from every pore and I have to restrain myself (at least until I’m behind closed doors).

Then, there are the times when life is a grind. I’m bored or tired. Days when I struggle to find something to get excited about, searching for that extra spark to make it through until bedtime.

Why can I get excited about some things and not others? Is my level of enthusiasm an indication of how important something is to me? Or it merely an indication of sleep deprivation?

And yet, if I could add enthusiasm to the things I already approach with common sense and persistance, would that give me the extra umph to get across the finish line?

What about you? What are you enthusiastic about? Do you feel a lack of enthusiasm for some other part of your life? Why? How can you fix that attitude?

    >Candee,

I find myself like you at different points in my life and it's hard to really point a finger at just what the source for those down days may be. Most of them for me, are physical down days, where I am tired or just sick and that is hard to keep an enthusiastic attitude in the midst of those days.

Prayer is the best medicine for me.

    >Most of the time when I lack enthusiasm it's because I'm stuck in self-pity mode. But God has given me so many wonderful enthusiasm-builders: His Word, prayer, beautiful music, friends, walks around the neighborhood, my work, my writing. When I think of all I can see, smell, taste, touch, feel, it turns my 'tude around.

    >Candee,

I enjoyed reading about Lance, and I was amazed at how much excellent writing you do. May God continue to give you grace as you write for Him.
