“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” (Psalm 23:4 NIV)

The path I follow sometimes leads through very dark places. Where dangers lurk in the shadows and I can get easily spooked. If not for the calming presence of my Shepherd and the protection of his rod and staff.

My path has already taken me through several scary valleys. When my daughter stopped growing. When I hemorrhaged after giving birth to my second son. When my daughter was diagnosed with CdLS, a rare genetic syndrome. When my second baby boy couldn’t breathe. When my health failed – chronic fatigue syndrome, shingles, acute inflammatory arthritis. And even three weeks ago, when my six-year-old fell off very tall bleachers to land on his head … on concrete … and was knocked unconscious and transported by ambulance on a body board.

Through it all, my Shepherd has never left my side. He comforts me.

What about you? Have you been through the valleys? Did you find comfort?
