Last year, my writing friend Sandi Rog was diagnosed with Stage 4 T-cell lymphoma on the same day as her first novel debuted. As you might recall, due to intensive chemo treatments, she wasn’t able to do a scheduled book signing and so I volunteered to do it for her.
Well, after a year of chemo and radiation and even a bone marrow transplant, Sandi is still battling the same exact cancer. This time in her spine. And this time she’s looking at alternative treatments not covered by her insurance.
One of her other writing friends, Allison Strobel Morrow, launched a very creative fundraising idea to raise the money to pay for Sandi’s treatments. She’s been collecting items for an online raffle to be held beginning the day after Thanksgiving. Each day, one item will be up for grabs on the Fundraiser For Sandi Rog blog. If you want in the “drawing” for that day, you leave a comment and designate how many “tickets” you’re putting in. For every $5 donated at www.GiveForward.com/Fundraiserforsandirog, you get one ticket.
Take a look at the blog and see some of the amazing items that have been donated so far. If you’re looking for gifts to give this holiday season, this is a great place to do your shopping. And it also blesses a very special family!
Oh, and if there are book lovers on your list, consider buying Sandi’s books The Master’s Wall and the just released book two in the series, Yahshua’s Bridge. Not only do you get amazing stories, her publisher is donating one dollar per book to a fund for Sandi’s family!
Why am I taking the day to post this? Because we journey together through life. And this is a great reminder of the power of friendship to support us in the tough places.
What about you? What have you done to support a friend during dark days? Have you received that support? Did it make a difference?
