If there was a top ten list of things kids and parents say during the summer, “I’m bored” would be at the top. Followed by “Go play outside.”

After all, it’s nice weather. Sunshine. Green grass. Rowdy kids can explore the great outdoors without breaking any lamps. And if parents are lucky, they’ll come home tired enough to head to bed early.

So why would my first suggestion for summer fun be an indoor activity? Because thunderstorms and heat waves can make indoor diversions necessary. Not to mention you’ll want to sign up now to take advantage of this program all summer!

Go to KidsBowlFree.com and click on a state to find participating bowling centers near you. Kids 15 and under can bowl two games a day all summer long … for free. Depending on the location, you may need to pay for shoe rental (or find used shoes at a thrift store) but that’s still pretty cheap for a family fun break. Up to four additional family members (i.e. parents, grandparents, and/or or older siblings) can be put on a family pass for $25 for the whole summer (shoes not included).

Even if you don’t have kids that qualify, when was the last time you went bowling? Isn’t it time for a trip down memory lane in an air-conditioned or lightning-free environment?

Just don’t drop a ball on your toes.

(For more ideas to be intentional about family togetherness and make lasting memories, join us on Fridays for the rest of the summer!)

What about you? Do you have any bowling memories? What’s your best score? Or do you need the gutter-ball guards like I do?
