“The difference between the impossible and the possible lies in a person’s determination.” ~ Tommy Lasorda

“The question isn’t who is going to let me; it’s who is going to stop me.” ~ Ann Rand

This week’s character quality is determination. Purposing to accomplish the right goal at the right time, regardless of the opposition. It’s never giving up. It’s being firm and resolute. It’s the opposite of being faint-hearted.

Notice that at the heart of determination is having a goal … and then pursuing it. So what is the goal?

One goal is to lose a few pounds by exercising regularly and cutting back on sugar. The opposition? A busy schedule. Stress-induced cravings. Conveniently located restaurants. Late nights. Am I determined to succeed?

Another goal is to get my fiction published. The opposition? Revisions that still need to be made. Queries. Waiting. Rejections. Changes in the market. Platform building. Am I determined? Is this the right time?

What about my goals to grow in my faith and follow God? Raise my children? Be a supportive wife? Am I equally determined to overcome the opposition?

What about you? What are your goals? Are you determined to pursue them? How do you know they are the right goals at the right time?
