woman_stepping_off_red_cliff“She knew it was crazy. That was what she liked best about it.”

This opening line speaks volumes about the personality of this unknown character. She’s a risk-taker who seems to thrive on the challenge. This certainly isn’t the first time she’s done something that qualified as crazy. The only question is what is she up to now?

Is she about to leap off a cliff strapped to a hang glider … or jump out of a plane with a parachute on her back? Is she about to confront a rival or enemy? Is she about to march down the hall to her boss’ office and slap a letter of resignation onto his desk? Or is she storming into an old-western saloon with a group of church ladies to protest the evil liquor in their town? Is she about to open a business on her own or declare her feelings for the man she’s had a secret crush on for years?

Whatever she’s going to do, it’s crazy … and she’ll love every minute of it.

(By the way, this opening line is from Impulse, a romantic novella by Nora Roberts published in 1989, and selected at random during a stroll through my local library.)

What about you? What do you think this character is about to do?
