footballWhat are you doing tonight? I’ll be watching my sophomore son take snaps under center during his school’s varsity Homecoming game. (No pressure for this football mom!)

Football has been a part of my life since I was an infant and my parents took me to games. Growing up, I was the tomboy who played football with the boys at recess. Then, I married a football coach, hauled our kids around to games, and now our oldest son is continuing the tradition.

The bright lights, pep bands, cheerleaders, and concession-stand popcorn are as much a part of the game as the struggle for field position, tackles, penalties, and touchdown celebrations. In fact, there are many similarities between the game of football and the walk of faith including picking teams, protective armor-like pads, teamwork and positions, handling praise, a crowd of cheering witnesses, persevering through trials, and earning rewards. (And I wrote about them in Pigskin Parables.)

In honor of Friday night and football everywhere, I’m giving away a print or audio version of my first book (winner’s choice). How do you get your name in the helmet for the drawing? Just leave a comment on my Facebook page at by midnight Friday October 4th and tell us your favorite football memory.
