pile-of-booksSince I am an avid reader as well as a writer, I thought I’d take today’s post to share what I’m currently reading and why.

The Holy Bible – Because I need to be daily reminded of the Truth.

Legal depositions – Part of my day job, I get paid to read and summarize them.

Calm My Anxious Heart by Linda Dillow – I was searching through my Kindle archives and came across this classic. Since I found myself doing a bit of worrying about all sorts of family, work, and career stuff, it’s been a great reminder to trust in God as the Blessed Controller as I read a chapter a day as part of my quiet time.

Boundaries by Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr. John Townsend – This one was recommended by several people after a difficult personal incident and I’m finding it an equally challenging and liberating read. It’s taking awhile to finish because I keep stopping, rereading, and thinking about certain points.

Conflict & Suspense by James Scott Bell – My local writer’s group is working through this book chapter by chapter and then applying the techniques to our writing. I’m learning a lot about conflict and the characters in my next book are going to face a LOT of trouble. Blame it on Mr. Bell!

Surrendered Love by Laura V. Hilton (to be followed by Awakened Love) – With her newest book just being released, I realized I hadn’t read the one the came out this spring either so quickly got both of them. (I have to admit that the author’s my critique partner and I saw these manuscripts in a rougher form, but I love seeing how Laura and her publisher polish them up into gems.)

Swept Away by Mary Connealy – I found the first chapter at the end of another book of hers I just finished, got hooked, and downloaded this one. I’m saving it as a reward for getting my legal document reading done.

When I’m done with these, I have a teetering stack beside by bed and a bulging Kindle cloud just waiting. How many books at one time is too many?

What about you? What are you reading?
