This week marks the beginning of a new year with so many possibilities ahead.
Coffee dates with friends. Bible studies with a small group. Trails to hike. Books to read. Stories to create. Meals to fix. Love to share.
But things don’t always go according to plan!
Case in point: 2023. I started off last year full of HOPE that we would get through the myriad of details to finalize my mother-in-law’s estate. ?Then we ran into one obstacle after another. Followed by health challenges that planted me on the sidelines for longer than I’d hoped.
Yet God is faithful. He never left me alone as I clung to the hope that one day I’d get out of that dark tunnel and see an expanding landscape again.
As I’ve prayed about 2024, I kept coming back to that idea of faithfulness from two different angles:
First, God is faithful. He hasn’t changed and He never will. His promises are true. He loves, forgives, protects, provides, guides, comforts, heals, and so much more. It might be a new year, but I serve the same God.
“Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful.” (Hebrews 10:23)
“Your love, Lord, reaches to the heavens; Your faithfulness, to the skies.” (Psalm 36:5)
God is faithful. And I plan to spend time this year simply reflecting on and thanking Him for who He is.
Which brings me to the second application of that word. Am I faithful?
I want to be someone my friends and family can count on. I want to keep my word. Be a good steward of the financial and creative blessings God has entrusted to me. Keep on loving and serving and giving and laughing and… some days, just keep on keeping on!
?Because one day I want to hear my Father say, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” (Matthew 25:21)
?So, it’s a new year. With a new word to focus on. But the same God still on the throne.
What about you? Have you prayed about the upcoming year? What is God nudging you to focus on in 2024? How can I pray for you?
P.S. I created a Spotify playlist with an hour’s worth of songs that reinforce the message that God is faithful…and I want to be faithful too. You can find it here.
