I don’t know about your neighborhood or household, but around here, back-to-school fall activities are ramping up. (Then again, I’m married to a teacher and football coach so it’s more obvious than if he were in another profession.)
It’s that time of year when summer melts into fall and vacation mode transitions back to regular routines.
Unless you’re a dear friend of mine.
She’s been in full-planning and anticipation mode for taking her entire family (husband, four adult children, daughter-in-law, two grandkids, and one grandson-in-law) on a road trip to Branson, Missouri.
?Since I’m familiar with the area and activities, there have been a LOT of questions about places to go, things to see, where to eat, and more. Including a lot of almost giddy bouncing in her chair the closer they get to piling into the cars.
Now, having driven that same stretch of road in the not-too-distant-past (ahem, a month ago), I can hear it now. “Are we there yet?”
It’s going to be great when they arrive…but they aren’t there yet.
Personally, I’m in a similar planning and anticipation mode around a different topic that might be of greater interest to YOU.
The prequel novella for my upcoming series is with my editor right now. And book three is on her schedule for next month. As soon as it’s done, I can finally put real release dates on the calendar.
That’s when it’s going to get real around here.
(If you’ve been around here awhile, you know that life keeps knocking me sideways with detours that have delayed the launching of this series probably a year past when I’d first hoped. So, that’s why I’m being extra cautious about not promising dates until the edits are complete.)
But, if you’ve been chomping at the bit wondering when you can finally meet these new characters, welcome to the club! I’ve been living in that anticipation mode for way too long.
Are we there yet? Ha.
Speaking of not knowing the day yet, there’s another huge event on the horizon that I also don’t know the timing for. In fact, no one but the Father knows.
(Can you guess where I’m going with this road trip and anticipation parallel?)
Jesus is coming back. Heaven awaits. There will be a feast. An end to all pain and suffering. Good riddance to this wrinkly squishy body that’s falling apart.
That’s the destination. In the meantime, I’m still on the journey to get there. Still preparing my heart. Still walking daily. Still listening to the soundtrack of worship and traveling with friends. Still trusting.
?”But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting for him to return as our Savior.” (Philippians 3:20 NLT)
Stuck in that in-between of anticipation before I arrive, all I can do is just keep on keeping on.
And in the context of the Cafe on Hope and Main, while I’m waiting for the prequel and book three to both get back from my editor, I’ll just keep writing… and start on book four.
