I once heard a writing coach say “tell me your top three favorite movies and I’ll tell you what type of stories you write.” Meaning that the same things that draw me to a story, will invariably make their way onto the page.
Well, I have to agree. Because While You Were Sleeping, The Fugitive, and the Lord of the Rings trilogy are filled with underdogs rising to the top with a few classic banter moments along the way.
The same could be said for the music that speaks to my heart and the music I listen to while writing a particular story. In fact, one of my favorite hymns–“Blessed Assurance”–has this line: “This is my story, this is my song. Praising my Savior all the day long.”
Hmm. Maybe that’s why I wrote (and have plans to expand) a series centered around performers. Guess I just can’t escape the power of music!
So, in case you want to hear the melodies that make me and my stories tick, here are a few of my Spotify inspiration playlists to check out.
- Candee’s Life MixTape – Life can be hard, but God is always good and worthy to be praised. So these are some of the songs that carry me through the journey.
- The Wardrobe Dinner Theater Series – From the rhythm of dancing feet and musical theater classics to onstage ballads and duets with spiritual truths in between, check out the songs that inspired your favorite scenes.
- Catch of a Lifetime playlist – Setting a romance around a college football program definitely required mood music for all the on-field action scenes.
- Within the Castle Gates playlist – From the scenic Scottish Highlands to Regency London drawing rooms, these historical tales had a soundtrack of their own to help me capture the mood.
- Cafe on Hope and Main playlist – (In progress and growing just like the series) – Powerful lyrics sharing the truth these characters need to embrace as God brings them into His family and gives them HOPE.
