On my way to becoming a published Christian romance author, I also blogged about my life as a special needs mom wrestling with chronic health issues and pursuing my dream as a writer.  I called it “Encouragement for the Journey” and I can’t count the number of readers who thanked me for my devotionals. Devotionals? I just talked about what God was teaching me using the ordinary things around me. Stuff like watching countless football

Creation Declares – God’s Fingerprints (Part Two)

All year I’ve been making the case that all of creation bears the fingerprints of the Creator. Our theme verse for the year has been, “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.” (Romans 1:20 NIV) Creation declares the glory of God. But the ultimate evidence of God’s fingerprints on creation happened when His Son

Creation Declares – God’s Fingerprints (Part One)

Back in January, we began a journey that started with the words “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1 NIV) From start to finish, there have been countless examples of the Intelligent Designer who left His divine fingerprints for us to see. “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people

Creation Declares – A New Creation

As a writer, I know a bit about creativity. I know first-hand the thrill of imagination and producing a story world populated with interesting characters facing tough challenges. I know the joy of stepping back from what I created and smiling because it’s pretty good. I know how exhausting creating can be and the relief found by collapsing on the couch to rest. And I know that as soon as I announced “It is finished!”

Creation Declares – Adaptability

My in-laws raise quarterhorses while my parents have a handful of a certain variety of cattle. Both pay particular attention when it comes to breeding because of the genetics involved. Farmers, animal lovers, and even gardeners have been artificially selecting certain characteristics in breeding programs for years. (However, while their efforts have resulted in hundreds of different breeds, the offspring are still horses, cows, dogs, cats, or roses at their genetic core.) In the 1850s,

Creation Declares – Chaotic Tendencies

I passed by a bookshelf in my living room the other day and stared at the layer of dust on the picture frames. I just dusted not that long ago and now I have to do it again along with more vacuuming and picking up the clutter. Thanks to the Second Law of Thermodynamics, I get to clean and clean and clean again. There are three consistently observable laws in nature that relate to heat

Creation Declares – Not By Accident

We’ve been talking about creation all year, as if God, a supernatural being, actually formed everything that we see and even the things that we can’t see without the aid of telescopes or microscopes. But what about what my science teacher taught me in school? That this is all the result of random accidental meetings? That there was a Big Bang explosion that sent particles hurtling through space. That some particles bumped into each other

Creation Declares – Natural Consequences

If creation is so great, then why are things falling apart? Why forest fires, floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and typhoons? The magnitude of destruction doesn’t seem to reflect God’s divine attributes like goodness and love, therefore some assume that God either doesn’t care about humanity or is powerless to prevent catastrophes. Unless we consider that God created mankind in His own image with a free will and the power to make decisions …

Creation Declares – God Is Big

How’s life treating you today?  If I were honest, my typical answer to this question would focus on the daily stresses and responsibilities that often seem overwhelming. In the middle of the mundane, it’s easy to lose perspective and wonder if God is distant from His creation and if He even cares about the details. I’m not the first person to ever think this way. In the middle of his suffering, Job’s friends planted seeds

Creation Declares – Wonderfully Made

How special am I? On the one hand, I am tiny speck in the universe. As shown in the following video, our sun and solar system are relatively insignificant compared to the billions of other stars. Then, the ball of dirt that makes up our planet with its swirling atmosphere, vast oceans, and towering peaks is inhabited by millions of species and billions of humans. It’s easy get lost in the crowd.  As the psalmist
